Higher Education Has Reopened
New York State continues to reopen on a regional basis as each region meets the criteria necessary to protect public health during the COVID-19 emergency. Industries coming back online have been categorized into four phases.
The return of higher education administration was included in Phase Two, commencing on June 2, 2020. Phase Two applies to business activities where the core function takes place within an office setting. Phase Four, which includes higher education in general, began on June 30.
Erie County’s progression through the reopening phases does not signal an immediate return to campus for Buffalo State faculty and staff. Employees using alternative work arrangements should continue to do so and should await guidance from their supervisors regarding when and how to return to working on campus.
Before workers return, supervisors must develop safety-oriented return-to-work plans for the Buffalo State offices or departments they oversee. Employees must follow campus procedures including viewing an online training.
The Governor’s Office of Employee Relations alternative work arrangements (the state’s telecommuting pilot program) have been extended through October 2, 2020. As a result, Temporary Work Location-Flexible Work Schedule Agreements at Buffalo State will remain in effect through this date. Supervisors will notify employees if and when updated agreements are necessary.
